Day 78 – Practice, Practice, Practice!
It has felt good to get back into the gym and really work on some of my sparring skills again. I was calm and cool as a cucumber which probably had a lot to do with the 5 or so naps I had taken poolside that afternoon. 🙂
On Tuesday, Rey had asked another former White Collar Boxer to come in to help me out by doing some sparring with me. I stepped into the ring with “Knibbernator” Emma Knibbs who also won at the Asia Cup last June – and also named Fighter of the Night! So, was this good practice or what?
It really helps for me to get as much practice as possible with as many different boxers as I can, so that I don’t get used to one style and I can then be more prepared for anything that may come at me that night. I still haven’t boxed my opponent yet, so the variety in my practices will help me out with being ready for anything.
Emma was a great opponent and in the 2nd round I had given her a few body shots which she returned one of her own. I had never had a full on body shot given to me before and we both ended the round and said pretty much at the same time “wow, those body shots hurt!!” So, it was also good practice to know what that feels like receiving them too!
Tonight, we have another White Collar Session coming up and tomorrow I am lined up to step into the ring for some more sparring practice. Only 3 weeks remaining so I need to practice, practice, practice before the big night!
I am finding that training and fundraising work is much easier to do without that pesky full time job of mine getting in the way. 🙂
