Day 19-21: Sunny Weekend in Singapore
Lumping a few posts into one for the weekend. 🙂
Friday, January 25th
Today was another day of rest. I was really not feeling the greatest and went home to bed directly after the Parent Teacher conferences. I felt bad about not going to the gym – guilty really – but it was time to listen to my body. My cold is kind of kicking my butt these days and just wish that my cough would vamoose already! I also had friends fly in who were staying with me for the weekend, but it was a late flight. I slept on the sofa until they got there around 1am and tried to piece together a coherent conversation with them before saying “goodnight” as I needed to be up by 6am for Saturday’s training session. Off to bed I trundled and fell asleep quickly knowing that a tough morning would lie ahead.
Saturday, January 26th
This morning wasn’t an easy wake up call but a bit easier because Kelso also needed to be ‘bright eyed and bushy tailed’ as he was competing in the U-Fit games that morning. I arrived with a few minutes to spare to find out that we were going for a warm-up run. I was very thankful I remembered to pack my headphones as the “warm-up” was a quick paced 6km to start the session off and I can’t be left alone with my own thoughts for that long! We returned to the gym to find a smorgasbord of exercises already lined up for us which weren’t actually too bad (or – dare I say it? – we might be getting more fit?) Then we got our gloves on and worked on our punches with a partner focusing on our movements and technique. I was happy this practice didn’t include Alexis’ jab to my jaw either! I have learned my lesson – hopefully? I was really working on not flicking my jab as well and I can now tell the difference. I find that I flick it more when my arms get tired.
After that it was a full day of fun. I arrived at the U-Fit games just after Kelso finished competing (I was cheering for him in the car!) but I was able to watch some other friends compete in the finals. I definitely want to try this out when they hold it again in June. It seemed very difficult and by the looks of the lunges they had to do – I better start practicing now!
We then went back home to meet up with our friends Brandy and Adam who were visiting from Hong Kong, grab a little lunch and then head off to the Laneway Festival! It was a gorgeous sunny day in Singapore and everyone was in high spirits at the festival to say the least. We were having a great time, but I did have to tap out early and made a sneaky escape to the taxi stand. I wish I could have stayed but I was absolutely exhausted and needed my bed.
Sunday, January 27th
Enjoyed a lazy morning and said goodbye to our visitors. They will be back again soon enough when they come to see the boxing event. 🙂 Looking forward to having them back! Did a short run in the dead of the heat of mid-day, sun blazing Singapore which I quickly regretted. Kelso had an early football game so we enjoyed an late lunch and shopping for my new headgear for the boxing match (but they didn’t have the color I wanted) and then headed home. Kelso had a date with the tennis on TV and I was heading directly to the massage place at the mall near our house. Ended the evening enjoying some BBQ treats (that was healthy!) and falling asleep on the sofa while watching a movie (classic Keriann).
All in all – a great weekend!
