Day 16 – No Vampire Boxing Today!

Well this hasn’t happened in quite some time… I actually got to be there for the 5:15 class on Tuesday and it was still daylight out when I left. I rushed around trying to get everything done at work so I could make the class. I was so glad I did. Sometimes it feels like I am living in Canada in the winter because it’s dark when I leave for work and it’s dark when I get home at the end of the day after my boxing session. Well not today – DAYLIGHT! It was great to see all of my familiar faces of my usual classmates and very briefly “catch up” with a few people. The catch up didn’t last too long as Wan had us straight away into our exercises and routines.

We started off with a bit of skipping and then straight into shadow boxing. I worked hard to apply some of the suggestions Wan had been giving me over the past week or so. Keep moving, punch fast and hard and practice punching straight away after moving. Things are starting to come together and hopefully if I practice enough I won’t have to think about it too much – it will just happen and feel totally natural.

Following that we split into partners. There wasn’t much in the way of partner practice actually happening though (which in hindsight probably allowed Kemmy and I to actually work rather than chat! 🙂 ) One partner would go and punch the bags while the other had to do exercises. We did this rotation quite a bit changing up the exercises with each round. We did wall squats (you know the one where your legs burn because you are sitting with your back against the wall like you are sitting in a chair?), step ups on to the boxing ring (which is actually higher than my kneecaps!), planks (of course), crunches and probably a few others that my brain is probably shutting out of my memory because it was so horrible.

Our final bit was to do non-stop jabs and straight punches on the bag. Then to add to the “fun” whenever Wan told us “down” we had to do 2 burpees and then get back to non-stop punching. We ended with an ab workout game and leg raises.

Following the class, I got home and made some actual dinner. It has been a long time since I actually cooked something at home – sounds weird but what I have been eating since the start of this is salad, fruit salad or wraps – not really a sit down dinner. I made some spaghetti Bolognese and it was delicious (if I do say so myself!)

Thank goodness for leftovers.
